Growing kai. Sharing abundance.

At Pourewa, a community garden connects people with whenua and shares its kai freely with whānau and neighbours.

Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei describes Pourewa as a place for growing food, restoring native plants and learning. Its community vegetable garden was completed in June 2020, bringing food production together with connection to the land.

Composting is central to how the garden works. The iwi says the harvest is distributed free to whānau and the local community. It is a practical example of wellbeing taking shape through kai, shared knowledge and looking after one another.
