Finding belonging. Supporting others.
Rupene Omahuru shares how Rūnāia helped him reconnect with whakapapa, marae and whānau. His lived experience became a way to support other people.
Healthy Families Whanganui, Rangitīkei, Ruapehu published Rupene Omahuru’s account of finding support through Rūnāia, a marae and taiao based wellbeing initiative delivered with He Puna Ora and Korowaitia Te Puna Waiora, Te Oranganui.
In that account, Rupene describes renewed belonging and connection with his children. It also describes his work as a peer support worker, drawing on lived experience to support others. This is his published experience, rather than a promise about anyone else’s recovery.
